For parents

When AI and calculators are off the table, students still have to show the work

One-on-one math tutoring in Katy and West Houston, from Algebra through Calculus AB.

What parents are seeing

Many middle schools and high schools are placing temporary bans or strict limits on generative AI tools for schoolwork. Some classes are also restricting calculators on certain assignments, quizzes, or tests. Policies differ from school to school, from teacher to teacher, and even from one unit to the next — so check your student's syllabus or ask the teacher what applies in their class.

The common thread is simple: students are expected to do the math themselves and show their work. A student who has leaned on an app to get answers can suddenly find a test or in-class assignment much harder than the homework seemed.

Calculators are being limited in some schools. In those schools, calculators are only to be used in Calculus and higher math classes. That means students from Pre-Algebra through Precalculus may be expected to work problems by hand — arithmetic, fractions, and all. Ask your student's teacher what the rule is for their class.

How one-on-one tutoring helps

Builds the skill they have to show

One-on-one tutoring builds the skill the student has to demonstrate without an AI tool — setting up the problem, working each step, and checking the answer.

Your student's own problems

MrsTutor works the student's own problems and curriculum, so practice matches what the teacher is asking for.

She does not do the work for them

Sessions are about the student doing the math. She explains, asks questions, and tries another approach when one isn't clicking — but the student does the work.

Number sense and by-hand work

When calculators are limited, solid basic computation matters more. Finding weak spots in a student's computational skills has always been part of her approach.
